Yogic text and anatomy state Kundalini as Shakti (energy) primal, innate resting dormant energy reserve at the base of our spine.
Kundalini practice works to awaken this energy through prescriptive combinations of meditation, breathing exercises (pranayama)yogic postures (asana)seels of energy (mudras)and body locks (bandhas)coupled with sound technology (mantra)to re-connect you to your higher self, relax, renew and gain clarity of mind.
Kundalini yoga is an ancient Indian practice that is better known as Raaj Yogh (Royal Yoga) and Yoga for householder. It embodies the eight elements required for our physical mental and spiritual alignment = union (yoga)
Why Royal Yoga? If you did not renounce the world and dedicate your life to this practice in solitude and celibacy – this knowledge or experience was out of your reach. Secrets of the mind body and soul were highly guarded, as it was spiritual capital hence spiritual royalty. As with all royalty the power is passed down. The lineage of yogic practice passed from Baba Sri Chand (House of Nanak) to Sri Guru Ram Das ji. It was at this point, that something changed.
Sri Guru Ram Das ji, a family man, martial artist, poet and scholar believed in a holistic approach to life. He respected the rich yoga lineage passed to him, but he believed that this technology should be shared with all: one must not have to renounce all, meditate in solitude to merge with his/her higher self. Spiritual development is our birthright.
He pioneered a movement: freedom of information. Sacred texts that were highly guarded now distributed freely. He understood that knowledge was nothing without experience so he created the opportunity for all to develop equally. The once royal yoga evolved into the Yoga of house-holders.
‘Kundalini Yoga is a yoga for householders, for people who have to cope with the daily challenges and stresses of holding jobs, raising families, and managing businesses. It is a path for everyone who wants the skills to cope successfully with the challenges of our times’3HO website.

"Kundalini Yoga is the science to unite the finite with Infinity, and it's the art to experience Infinity in the finite."-Yogi Bhajan, 10/27/88
Yogi Bhajan was often asked what Kundalini yoga was. Similar to Guru Ram Das Ji, Yogi Bhajan’s focus lay with experience: ‘try it, see what happens’. Personally, for me, kundalini yoga has had immediate and long term impact on my being.
If you are new to Kundalini, or in fact yoga, come to a class and see how it is for you, thus the first class is run on a donation basis. Remember this is the yoga for householders, designed for all abilities, men and women alike. I even convinced my husband (Alpha caveman) to come to a class with me and he was surprised at the experience and the results (slept like a baby)!
Don’t take my word for it - try it for yourself
